Henty were celebrating the Indigenous round at the club with a smoking ceremony and welcoming to acknowledge Indigenous players.

The AFL kindly donated a special match ball for the game; a replica of the balls used in the recent AFL Indigenous round of matches.

It was an Indigenous footballer who was the star of the day, with Magpies forward Ash Murray booting six goals in a best on ground display.

Shannon Terlich was best for Henty with four goals, while Damian Cupido was well held with three goals. Harry Nunn and Dale Cox were again in great form.

HOLBROOK pulled off one of the club’s best victories for many years with a stirring come-from-behind win over Brock Burrum at Burrumbuttock.

Trailing by over three goals at the last change, the Brookers kept the home team goalless, while slotting home three themselves to win a thriller by one point.

Lachie Trethowan back after missing eight weeks with injury broke the deadlock with a point with just three minutes left in slippery conditions.

Brock Knights, Josh Jones, Sam Harris and Alec Sullivan were superb all day, while Andrew Mackinlay kicked three goals and Brad Carman two.

The Saints got excellent service from man mountain ruckman Matt Seiter, while veteran Luke Brauer and Mitch Koschitzke stood out.

Both sides were missing several key players in Matt Sharpe, Isaac Lampe and Gus Keogh (Holbrook) while the Saints badly missed Azzi Medalists Nico Sedgwick and Luke Schilg.

LOCKHART stunned old rivals Osborne at Osborne winning by 11 points in the upset of the season. It was the bottom placed Demons’ first win for the season.

In what is proving to be the most even Hume Football League competition in its history, it was a sweet victory for the Demons who have been closing in on a win over the last month.

The game was won in a wonderful Demons third term, after they led by one point at half-time. Lockhart kicked four goals to nothing to all but seal the upset win.

Andrew Emery was clearly best on ground with four goals, while Zachary Sheather, Jordan Harrington and Blake Jones showed their class.

Osborne fought back manfully in the final term with Azzi Medal fancy Marty Bahr, Duncan McMaster and coach Matt Rava leading the way.

CDHBU were finally rewarded for some good form of late with an upset win over Culcairn at Culcairn, winning a heart stopper by six points.

The Lions’ inaccuracy proved costly as they failed to convert nine more scoring shots than the visitors with 6-16 a poor return.

The Power surged home in the second half after trailing by 13 points at half-time to kick six goals to two in a brilliant finish.

Jess Sutherland and Tim Hallinan were best for the Lions. The defeat has seen the Giants replace Culcairn in the top six.

Shannon Broadbent was excellent up forward for the Power, with Liam Butler, John Webb and Kyle Mills all playing a huge part in the win.

RAND Walbundrie Walla celebrated its back to Walbundrie premiership reunion with a commanding all the way win over Howlong at Walbundrie by 45 points.

With 1947 premiership players Cecil Graetz and Arthur Trethowan in the audience the Giants kept the Spiders goal less in three quarters.

Tommy Simmons was best afield, just ahead of the consistent Chris Duck, while coach Myles Aalbers kicked three goals.

Steve Jolliffe, Peter Hancock and Brett Lefoe all tried hard for the visitors who are now almost certain to miss finals after its sixth straight loss.

THE final round nine match was another indication of how tight the competition is when third placed Jindera struggled to overcome second last Billabong Crows at Jindera.

After conceding five first quarter goals the Crows fought back in great fashion to outscore the Bulldogs by eight goals to five in the last three quarters.

Leading league goal kicker Trent Castles with six goals was the difference in the end, as the Bulldogs struggled to hold off the determined Crows.

Samuel Herzich, Michael O’Riordan, Matthew Gaynor and Tim Austin were best for the Crows in a performance full of merit.

A MASSIVE round of matches coming up this Saturday with a potential grand final preview between Brock Burrum and Henty a mouth-watering encounter.

THIS WEEK
