Border Mail Round 4 – Review
HOLBROOK reacted savagely to last weekend’s surprise loss by belting previously undefeated Howlong by 97 points at Howlong on Saturday.
In a huge form reversal, the Brookers dominated after quarter-time kicking 23.10 (148) to 7.9 (51) to consolidate their spot in the top six.
“Obviously the club was disappointed with last weekend and we were looking for a response,” Sharp said.
“We were big on doing the basics well for longer than the opposition and it paid off.
“It was a good four quarter effort which was pleasing.”
Centreman Josh Jones ran with Howlong star Steve Jolliffe and came out on top while Sam Harris, Jayden Beaumont, David Tassell and Andrew Mackinlay were also big winners.
While both teams were without key personnel, the Brookers had a longer list of absentees with Sharp, Lachie Trethowan, Isaac Lampe, Nick Pugh, Hamish Mackinlay, Andrew Taylor, Gus Keogh and Luke Carman sidelined.
Howlong ruckman Peter Hancock was the Spiders’ best with Blake Williams and Manny Hughes also effective.
Osborne youngster Declan Galvin was on fire as the Tigers charged home to defeat Rand-Walbundrie-Walla by 37 points at Rand.
With the match in the balance at half-time, Galvin, Sam Rutland, Duncan McMaster and Izaac McDonnell took their game to another level.
Galvin caught out the Giants’ defence with his pace in kicking five goals while McMaster dragged down mark after mark in defence.
On-baller Chris Duck again toiled well for the home team but support was limited.
After a slow start to the season, Osborne has beaten Culcairn and Rand-Walbundrie-Walla in the past fortnight and have a favourable run ahead against Murray Magpies, Howlong, CDHBU and Billabong Crows.
Jindera defeated Culcairn by 33 points in a replay of last year’s preliminary final.
The Lions were competitive for three quarters before falling away late as Matt Osborne, Ryan Speed, Damien Jones and Harry Weaven took control.
Jindera were pleased with Tom Weldon’s tagging role on Jye Shields.
The loss leaves Josh Hillary’s side in 11th position with a nightmare clash ahead against undefeated ladder leader Henty.
Brock-Burrum hammered Murray Magpies by 71 points.
Darcy I’Anson led the way for the victors with support coming from Jeremy Luff, Josh McCudden and John-Roy Williams.
Hayden Edwards and Michael Sims tried hard for the Magpies.
Henty dismantled Billabong Crows by 91 points.
Jarrah Maksymow was best afield with seven goals while Daniel Cox continued his stellar season with another dominant showing in the midfield.
George Sandral was outstanding in a losing side.
CDHBU scored a surprisingly comfortable 85-point win over Lockhart.
