Culcairn coach Josh Hillary to take on former club in season opener

From the Border Mail.

CULCAIRN will be looking to build on last season’s impressive finish when it takes on Holbrook on Saturday.

After charging into the preliminary final, new coach Josh Hillary wants to find that same momentum early in 2018.

“We have been at it since four or five weeks prior to Christmas and had a really good pre-season,” Hillary said.

“Overall, things are looking positive.

“At the moment it’s pretty hot for spots and everyone is really keen to build on the confidence the club gained at the tail end of last season.”

Culcairn will be without Dane Hallinan due to suspension while defender Tim Haines has two more matches to serve.

Hillary admitted it was a strange feeling coming up against the Brookers after playing in their flag under Marc Duryea in 2004.

“It’s a long time ago, but I remember the rivalry was always pretty fierce in the Holbrook and Culcairn games,” he said.
